EFEU and EU4Dual Conference 2025
We are thrilled to announce that the EFEU team will be participating in the next planned EU4Dual Conference 2025 on April 2nd and April 3rd in both locations: Bidart, France and San Sebastian, Spain. It is a premier event focusing on the dual education model in Europe, which brings together educators, policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to explore the latest developments, best practices, and emerging trends in dual education.
Our team’s focus will be on disseminating the EFEU project deliverables and sharing valuable insights into fostering sustainability competencies and critical skill sets among students in higher education. We are eager to contribute to the dialogue on how institutions can better equip learners to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving world.
We look forward to engaging with the dynamic EU4Dual community and exchanging experiences that drive innovation and excellence in education.

Second Installation of Climate Fresk at DHBW Stuttgart
The EFEU-DHBW project team is proud to announce the second implementation of the Climate Fresk initiative at DHBW Stuttgart. Building on the success of the first implementation in January 2024, the team has planned three installations for incoming students of Fall Semester 2024. The first session took place on October 28th – 29th, 2024 with students of the Facility Management Department. The second session is scheduled for November 29th, 2024, involving students from the Department of Embedded Systems. The third session is planned for December 2nd – 3rd, 2024 with students of the Electrical Engineering Faculty.
Climate Fresk is a science-based, interactive educational tool that simplifies the intricate dynamics of climate change into an engaging and collaborative experience. By fostering discussion and critical thinking, it enables participants to grasp the causes, impacts, and solutions related to our climate crisis. Therefore, this workshop is a powerful tool in helping participants in better understanding the complexities of climate change and take actionable steps toward a sustainable future.
This initiative is part of the EFEU project team’s broader commitment to integrating sustainability learning into its educational approach. Through the implementation of Climate Fresk, we aim to:
- Foster climate literacy within our community,
- Encourage collaborative problem-solving on pressing environmental challenges, and
- Inspire actionable change both on campus and in the wider world.
We believe that empowering individuals with knowledge and tools to address climate issues is a crucial step toward creating a sustainable future. The insights and experiences of workshop participants will be shared at a later date via the project website, helping to amplify impact and inspire further action.
EFEU is on the road again; Destination: Leiria, Portugal
From 7th to 8th March 2024, the Emission Free European Universities Team will be in Leiria, Portugal, to participate in the third transnational project meeting (TPM).
This TPM will feature a smaller in-person team, with additional members joining virtually. The members attending in person will convene at the Politécnico De Leiria campus in Portugal. The agenda for this 2-day meeting is multifaceted, addressing project management issues, presenting initial results of the implemented EFEU Sustainability Awareness and Mobility Survey, and showcasing the EFEU Carbon Footprint Calculator. The team will also be given the opportunity to observe sustainable campus practices being implemented at the IPL campus.
Critical discussions during the meeting will revolve around the development of the EFEU Curriculum Analysis Tool, the transfer and transformation of teaching/learning activities, the outlook on the computation of CO2 emissions related to university mobility, and the co-design and implementation of the EFEU Conference 2024, Summer School 2025, digital lectures, and serious game.
To facilitate knowledge transfer and experience-sharing, the team will engage in several co-creation workshops featuring esteemed speakers such as Ana Pires - CENTIMFE, Joana Frazão - Fravizel, Carlos Viegas - Leerdam Crisal Glass, and Isabel Lança - Ordem dos Engenheiros. These workshops will focus on effectively integrating sustainable competencies and green skills in engineering education.
The team is anticipating the warm Mediterranean temperatures and, more importantly, the valuable experiences to be gained during the meeting. The generated outcomes will be shared on the website and LinkedIn profile in the coming weeks.
EFEU is heading to Valenciennes, France
From 16 to 17 November 2023, the Emission Free European Universities Team will be in Valenciennes, France to participate in the second transnational project meeting (TPM).
The 15-person team will convene at the Université Polytechnique Hauts de France Campus at Mont Houy, Valenciennes. Although the team intends to enjoy the exquisite French coffee and croissants, there are serious intentions behind this gathering. The meeting will serve several purposes:
- Present the interim results of Work
Package 2: Estimation of the Carbon Footprint of Partner Universities and results of the Sustainability Awareness/Mobility Study. - Commence activities making part of Work
Package 3: means of transferring and developing learning activities or modules that increase sustainability competencies of the staff and students within partner universities. - Transfer of knowledge and experience by Sustainability Experts: Guillaume Dumont (INSA Hdf), Hachimi Abba (DDRS Pole UPHF), Loic Lezzani (Head of Mechanical Dept, IUT), Olivier Sénéchal (INSA Hdf), and Jean Luc Franquelin (Renault)
This 2-day meeting will bring into focus one of the priority areas of the EFEU project: the development of innovative learning and teaching practices that increase the digital and green capabilities in the higher education sector. The generated results and presentations will be shared on the EFEU’s website and social media platforms at a later date.
